Uptime green, cart red: why Pingdom and UptimeRobot miss your broken checkout
An HTTP check confirms the server answers. It never clicks Pay. When the button vanishes after a release, uptime stays green and sales stop.
What a ping actually measures
Pingdom and UptimeRobot are excellent at saying whether a URL answers with an acceptable status in time. That matters for hosting. It is not proof a shopper can add to cart, enter a card, or complete a Shopify order.
The classic case: green at the host, red at checkout
A theme or plugin breaks the button selector. The homepage still returns 200. So does the cart page. Only the Pay step fails. An uptime alert never fires. Support tickets do.
- A ping sees a reachable server, not a clickable journey.
- Checkout depends on JavaScript, cookies and third-party payments.
- Without a step screenshot, the team wastes hours reproducing the bug.
What Pathly adds without replacing all uptime
Keep a ping on the critical page. Add Flow: real Chrome replays cart → pay from the EU. Ping and Flow can be linked: if the API is down, Pathly does not open Chrome for nothing. Chain covers login then the API behind the site.
